Animators can work for months to animate a single photo-realistic commercial. Car commercials are especially time consuming. All the moving parts have to look perfect for the animation to be convincing - but cars are very complex. Car commercials are therefore very expensive; more time spent equals more money spent.
Method & FeaturesCraft Director Tools are a set of plug-ins for 3dsMax and Maya that simulate complex motion, as in the case of a car. The motion is captured in real time and key-framed automatically. Henrik Morén at XDIN used Craft 4-Wheeler Extended to animate the films shown here. Instead of spending so much time and money on the animation, there was time left over for more creative aspects.
XDIN uses these films to demonstrate to clients what they can do with CG. More and more there is a demand for photo-realistic visualisations, and Craft Director Tools, comprising a total of 18 different plug-ins, make it more affordable. Users of Craft Director Tools range from architects to game makers and advertising agencies.
