Center of Visualization Göteborg is a membership organisation managed by Business Region Göteborg and Chalmers University of Technology. Center of Visualization Göteborg is one of three national Knowledge Arenas within the network VISARD, Visualisation - Arenas for Research and Development.

Now the Center for Sustainable Urban Development in Göteborg starts

In January 2010 Mistra Urban Futures started in Gothenburg, an international center for sustainable urban development which is operated by a consortium of seven strong players. To develop the center, five pilot projects will be carried out under the first two years. Center of Visualization is involved in one of the pilot projects, Urban Games.
Research foundation Mistra has now approved the budget and work plan, which means that the Center can begin to build up and the activities can start in early 2010. - In close collaboration between practitioners and researchers will be first class, efficient and relevant skills to be developed for policy makers and citizens, "says Henrik Nolmark, acting for the center conductor of Mista Urban Futures. The Center will help make a difference to the environment and human life in the world's cities. A consortium of Gothenburg's main strengths is a great collaboration between research and practical application.

Mistra Urban Futures also established an international network, with operations in Gothenburg as well as in Manchester, Kisumu, Kenya, Shanghai and Cape Town. The Center will provide an arena for the development and transfer of knowledge, where collaboration with industry, NGOs and the public must be developed.

Mistra Urban Futures is funded by research foundation Mistra, along with consortium members: Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg University, Göteborg City, Göteborg Region Regional Association (GR), IVL Swedish Environmental Institute, the provincial office of Västra Götaland County and Västra Götaland.

Center-offs are estimated to be around more than 20 million SEK during the construction phase the years 2010-2011, but increased to full-scale planned from 2012 with a budget of nearly 50 million SEK per year.

The Center will start five pilot projects in the first year:

1.    Decision Processes for Sustainable Urban and Regional Development
2.    Climate changing construction
3.    Participation and capacity building
4.    Business-driven sustainable development
5.    Urbana games: Common Learning for Sustainable Urban Development The project is about using games and visualization for understanding the city as a complex system. The project includes Center of Visualization, Gothenburg city and GRUL which is GR's project-based learning experience.
