Environmental GIS for building stocks and urban structures
The aim of this research project is to further develop research work on building stock modelling and the development of space-time GIS (geographic information systems) applications for urban structures. While the research so far has been directed to development of a conceptual model and a data model for a computer based information system describing environmental properties of buildings, this research project focus on data capture, i.e. establishment of the database, and the visualization of structural building data in general and environmental data in particular. Visualisation strategies will be developed by linking GIS and building stock modelling concepts and, by that, to support communication of environmental data and to provide an improved basis for decision-making towards a sustainable management of existing buildings. The overarching challenge of the project is how the multidimensional, global and political vision about sustainable development can be translated to local situations and specifically related to the built environment.
