Center of Visualization supported Scandinavia's first live 3DTV broadcast

On Friday, March 12 , Scandinavia's first live broadcast of a television program in 3d took place in Gothenburg. 3DTV is a large upcoming field of technology which is expected to grow over the coming years.

To view examples of what can be done in the current situation with existing technologies an event was organized around 3dtv Technology on SVT in Gothenburg. Rune Kullander from the company Resq of stereoscopic 3D talked about the human eye perception, theory, history and future. The Swedish program Dobbidoo was filmed in 3d in a studio at SVT (Swedish Television) in Gothenburg. A 3d-transmission was sent to Stockholm, in a satellite link and then back to Gothenburg, where the 3d-transmission was shown in a room next to the recording studio.

Interest in television in 3d increases markedly, and some of the major international channels as Discovery, Sky and ESPN are investing heavily on developing broadcasting 3d.

The project is the result of a collaboration between SVT, Lindholmen Science Park, Rezq and Center of Visualization Göteborg, technology providers Projectiondesign and MediaTec.
