Gothenburg-Singapore Collaboration in Visualization
In the period end-April to early-July 2011, a group of Chalmers researchers and students visited the National University of Singapore (NUS). The aim of our visit was to establish research collaboration in the area of visualization between the two universities. The group from Chalmers was Prof. Morten Fjeld, PhD-student Tommaso Piazza, and MSc-student Ali Alavi, we stayed at NUS for respectively ten, three, and one weeks. We were kindly hosted by Prof. Shengdong Zhao, head of the NUS Human-Computer Interaction Lab. The NUS HCI Lab created an excellent bridge to our Interaction Design Department of ITIT at GU/Chalmers and to the t2i Lab of Chalmers.
A few years ago, leaders from visualization-related research, education, and industry in the Gothenburg area (Chalmers, GU, Center of Visualization, Business Region Gothenburg) decided to build a long-lasting collaboration between Singapore´s and Gothenburg´s universities, research institutes, and industries in the area of visualization. The collaboration was initiated by a visit of a delegation from Gothenburg to Singapore in 2008; a group of highly ranked NUS professors and MDA ministry representative from Singapore re-visited Gothenburg in 2009. At the same time, there is an active exchange of students between Chalmers in Sweden and NUS in Singapore. As a result of this collaboration, the research exchange described above took place.
